Take Me To Your Leader

“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.” —Deuteronomy 29:29

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what might be out there? This year, that question moved from late-night conversation to the evening news. The government has begun declassifying records on unidentified aerial phenomena. The Pentagon has released batch after batch of reports, and Congress has held hearings. Even Hollywood is asking what all of this might do to the fundamental beliefs so many of us hold.

So does the discovery of things we don’t understand break the Bible? It doesn’t. But it does reveal the lens you see the world through.

During World War II, islanders in the South Pacific watched cargo planes land with supplies. When the war ended and the planes stopped coming, some built bamboo control towers and wooden headphones and waited for the cargo to return. They weren’t foolish. They simply had no category for flying machines, so they explained what they saw through the only lens they had. Every one of us does the same thing.

Don’t Sidestep the Supernatural

Think of your worldview as a nightstand with two drawers. The first drawer holds the natural: weather, planes, balloons, drones. Most unexplained sightings belong there. When the Air Force’s Project Blue Book studied more than 12,000 reports, about 94 percent had ordinary explanations.

The second drawer holds the supernatural: angels, demons and the unseen realm. Our culture tells us to throw that drawer out. But if all you have is a natural drawer, everything unexplained has to be a spaceship, a new species or advanced technology.

The beautiful thing is that the Bible gives us both drawers. Scripture shows an unseen realm that is populated. The “sons of God” shouted for joy at creation (Job 38:7), and God presides over a divine assembly (Psalm 82:1). That realm can act on the physical world. Angels appear, vanish, eat meals and open locked gates. And there are spiritual forces working against God’s truth. Scripture warns that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and that false signs and wonders can deceive (2 Thessalonians 2:9).

The lights, beings and anti-Jesus messages people describe line up with what Scripture warns about. UFO researcher Joe Jordan has documented around 400 cases in which a reported alien abduction stopped when the person called on the name of Jesus.

Not every unexplained experience is spiritual. But the Bible had a category for intelligent beings that move between the spiritual and the natural long before Hollywood did.

Don’t Bank on Blind Spots

So do aliens exist? I don’t know, you don’t know, and that’s OK. The government doesn’t know, and researchers don’t agree. God hasn’t told us everything, and He doesn’t have to.

Deuteronomy 29:29 reminds us that the secret things belong to God, while what He has revealed belongs to us. Paul warned Timothy about people devoted to myths and endless speculation that promote controversy rather than advancing God’s work (1 Timothy 1:3–4). It’s a spiritual red flag when fringe questions move to the center of our lives.

When we’re tempted to build our faith around what we don’t know, the best thing we can do is remember what we do know. Paul told Timothy to guard what had been entrusted to him (1 Timothy 6:20). The word pictures a sentry standing watch. We know God knows. We know Jesus rose from the dead and is still on the throne. No discovery can erase the grace and mercy we’ve received.

Don’t Lose Track of Your Leader

The real danger of chasing speculation isn’t the questions themselves. It’s where they can lead us. Paul warned Timothy that some people had wandered from the faith by following such foolishness (1 Timothy 6:21). They set out to find answers and ended up being led astray.

That’s the oldest story in human history. In the garden, Adam and Eve trusted the tree of knowledge instead of the Author of life. They didn’t lose their way because they asked questions. They lost their way because they lost track of who was leading them.

Growing up, every alien movie and cartoon had the same scene. The ship lands, the door opens, and the visitor says, “Take me to your leader.” It’s only fitting to end this message with the same question. Who is leading your life? Who is Lord of your life? Is it culture? An influencer? A politician? A podcaster? Or is it Jesus? Who is leading you determines where you will go.

We live in a world filled with questions we don’t have answers for, and some we never will. So we need a way to sort through what we hear. Proverbs 18:17 says the first one to state a case seems right until someone else comes and examines it. In other words, test it before you trust it. Run every new idea through a simple Bible grid:

1. Does it align with the teaching of Scripture?
2. What does it tell me about Jesus?
3. What does it lead me to worship?

Remember Scooby-Doo? Every episode had a monster, a chase and a big reveal. When the gang finally pulled off the mask, it was always just a regular guy. A lot of what the world offers works the same way. Pull off the mask, and underneath is the same old idea: trust yourself instead of trusting God.

But Scripture shows us who is really in charge. Colossians 1:16 says that by Jesus all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. That covers everything we can see and everything we can’t.

And one day, Philippians 2:10–11 says, every knee will bow: in heaven above the sky, on the earth, and under the earth. Every created thing, from every realm, will recognize that Jesus is Lord of all.

That’s why Paul could tell the Colossians, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him” (Colossians 2:6). He warned them not to let anyone take them captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy that depends on human tradition and the spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ (Colossians 2:8).

Those islanders building bamboo towers weren’t foolish. They were looking at something they didn’t understand through the only lens they had. We don’t have to live that way. God’s Word gives us both drawers, the seen and the unseen, and a Leader who rules over all of it. We may not have every answer about what’s out there, but we know who holds it all together.

So don’t sidestep the supernatural. Don’t bank on blind spots. And don’t lose track of your Leader.

He created all things. Every knee will bow before Him. He is King of the cosmos, and even aliens tremble at His name.

Take me to your leader!
