SUMMER STORIES | WEEK 1
"The Trail & The Treasure"
Pastor Jeffrey Kent
Life doesn't always unfold the way we expect. Sometimes we find ourselves walking through seasons of disappointment, loss, or uncertainty. The book of Ruth begins in exactly that kind of season.
A famine drives Naomi and her family away from Bethlehem in search of a better future. Instead, tragedy strikes. Naomi loses her husband and both of her sons, leaving her feeling empty and hopeless. What began as a difficult season became a devastating one.
Yet the story doesn't end there.
When Naomi hears that God has provided for His people back in Bethlehem, she begins the journey home. Along the way, Ruth makes a remarkable declaration of faith and loyalty: "Where you go, I will go." Ruth's commitment sets the stage for God's redemptive plan to unfold.
What neither Naomi nor Ruth could see was that God was already working behind the scenes. Through what seemed like ordinary circumstances, God led Ruth to Boaz, a kinsman-redeemer who would ultimately change the course of their future.
The story of Ruth reminds us that God is often working in ways we cannot yet see. What feels like an ending may actually be the beginning of a new chapter.
What appears to be coincidence may actually be God's providence.
Most importantly, Boaz points us to Jesus—the ultimate Redeemer. Just as Boaz stepped in to restore what was lost, Jesus came to redeem us, restore us, and give us a future filled with hope.
If you're walking through a difficult season today, remember this: God is not finished writing your story. Trust Him in the chapters you don't understand, because
His redemption is often closer than you think.
